There are 2,338 graves&#8230;&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The cemetery is located near Nijmegen<\/p>\n<p>The area is famous (or infamous) for a critical battle in WW II, Operation Market Garden as told in the book and film <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/A_Bridge_Too_Far\">A Bridge Too Far<\/a> The allies tried but couldn&#8217;t break through the German lines in Arnhem. It was a defeat for the allies.<\/p>\n<p>I have no first hand knowledge or memories of the war, and besides my great uncle Syd, no other family members saw any active duty (I may need to be corrected)<\/p>\n<p>I have no one to thank for their duty to MY (our) country.<\/p>\n<p>This would be my chance to pay my respects.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/picasaweb.google.com\/crazy.ratz\/NetherlandsStuff\/photo#5083089822842620370\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/picasaweb.google.com\/crazy.ratz\/NetherlandsStuff\/photo#5083089822842620370\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/lh6.google.com\/crazy.ratz\/RorDQzPwCdI\/AAAAAAAAADw\/goGfvrqwyqc\/s400\/groesbek%20cemetery.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Below this the inscription reads (in dutch on this gatepost):<strong><em><\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><em>The land on which this cemetery stands is the gift of the Dutch people for the perpetual resting place of the sailors soldiers and airmen who are honoured here<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Walking through and between the head stones I thanked the men here.
